Engineering Director, Log Storage, Data Analytics and Insights

Who you are

You have a Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience, along with 15 years of engineering leadership experience. Your background includes at least 10 years of experience leading multiple engineering teams and senior technical leaders, such as Managers and Principal/Staff Engineers. You possess a strong technical aptitude and can balance the perspectives of infrastructure engineers who build systems and the internal customers who use them. Your excellent communication and collaboration skills enable you to influence at all levels of the organization, creating a shared sense of outlook and purpose. You are an innovative thinker with a collaborative approach to problem-solving and a passion for working in a highly cross-functional environment, adept at managing ambiguity.

Desirable

Experience managing an organization through change is a plus, as is a deep understanding of data warehousing, big data processing, and distributed storage systems. You thrive in environments where you can mentor and develop talent through hiring, coaching, and professional development.

What you'll do

In this role, you will lead the Core Data organization, which develops and manages the critical infrastructure for acquiring, processing, storing, analyzing, and serving data at an immense scale. You will oversee the Data Analytics and Insights (DANI) organization, focusing on the critical user journey of deriving insights from structured data at Google scale. Your responsibilities will include driving improvements in system architecture, data governance, policy compliance, and user experience. You will partner with Site Reliability Engineering and other infrastructure teams to ensure the highest levels of reliability, efficiency, and performance. Balancing staffing and work across geographies will be essential to maximize impact for investment, and you will continue to foster a culture of innovation and collaboration within your teams.
