Faire is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to enhance developer productivity by building and maintaining internal developer tools. You'll work with Java, Spring, and Docker to streamline the development lifecycle. This role requires significant backend engineering experience.
You have 5+ years of backend engineering experience, particularly in building production systems that scale effectively. You've owned services from design through deployment and have navigated the complexities of debugging distributed systems. Your expertise in Java and Spring is deep — you've shipped high-throughput APIs that handle significant traffic and have strong opinions on service architecture and testing strategies. You understand the importance of developer productivity and are passionate about creating tools that empower engineers to work more efficiently. You thrive in collaborative environments and enjoy working closely with cross-functional teams to identify pain points and implement solutions. You are adaptable and open to learning new technologies as needed to enhance your contributions.
Experience with Docker and cloud services is a plus, as is familiarity with CI/CD practices. You may have worked in environments that prioritize developer experience and have insights into best practices for tooling and automation. A background in machine learning or data-driven decision-making could also be beneficial, given Faire's focus on leveraging technology to support independent retailers.
In this role, you will be responsible for building and maintaining high-quality features for internal developer tooling. Your initiatives will directly impact the development lifecycle, helping to remove bottlenecks and improve reliability across the engineering teams at Faire. You will collaborate with other engineers to gather feedback on existing tools and identify areas for improvement. Your work will enable engineers to ship code faster and with greater confidence, ultimately enhancing the overall productivity of the team. You will also be involved in the testing and deployment processes, ensuring that the tools you develop integrate seamlessly into the existing workflows. As you lead these initiatives, you will have the opportunity to mentor junior engineers and share your knowledge of best practices in backend development.
At Faire, we believe in the power of community and the importance of supporting independent businesses. You will be part of a mission-driven team that is dedicated to making a positive economic impact globally. We offer a collaborative work environment where your contributions will be valued and recognized. You will have access to professional development opportunities and the chance to work with cutting-edge technologies. Faire also provides competitive compensation and benefits, ensuring that you are well-supported in your role. Join us in our mission to empower local retailers and make a difference in communities around the world.
