Who you are

You have an Associate's degree, trade school certification, or equivalent practical experience in a related technical field. With 5 years of experience in controls and automation within an industrial or commercial environment, you are well-versed in the technical requirements of the role. You are capable of participating in material handling tasks, including lifting and moving equipment, and are familiar with OSHA standard safety equipment. Your ability to work non-standard hours and shifts is a testament to your flexibility and commitment to the job.

You possess certifications related to system administration, such as CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, or CompTIA Security+. Your experience spans across data centers, hospitals, power plants, or laboratories, showcasing your adaptability in various technical environments. You have a solid understanding of meters, devices, sensors, and relays, and are proficient in troubleshooting using standard hand tools and digital metering equipment.

Your proficiency in scripting languages enhances your ability to communicate effectively with contractors performing maintenance or upgrades on data center systems. You are knowledgeable about the logic and sequence of operations, which is crucial for assessing the working order of systems. Your experience in operating, monitoring, and maintaining data center facilities systems and equipment makes you a valuable asset to any team.

Desirable

While not required, additional certifications or experience in advanced controls systems would be beneficial. Familiarity with HVAC systems and their integration into data center operations is a plus, as is any experience with startup and commissioning of new controls equipment.

What you'll do

In this role, you will operate, monitor, and support the physical conditions of Google’s data centers. Your responsibilities will include maintaining heating and cooling systems for air and water, ensuring optimal performance of power systems, and responding to any abnormal conditions that arise. You will conduct tours of the systems to assess their functionality and report any issues that need addressing.

You will support the startup, commissioning, and integration of new controls equipment into the facilities infrastructure. Your role will require you to log and monitor systems, ensuring that all equipment operates within specified parameters. You will also be responsible for troubleshooting any issues that arise, utilizing your knowledge of standard hand tools and diagnostic equipment to resolve problems efficiently.

Collaboration is key in this position, as you will work closely with contractors and other team members to ensure that maintenance and upgrades are performed smoothly. Your ability to communicate effectively will help facilitate these interactions, ensuring that all parties are aligned on project goals and timelines.
