Skyscanner is launching a unique Software Engineering & Teaching Programme that combines hands-on engineering experience with teaching Computer Science. You'll work at Skyscanner and then transition to teaching, gaining valuable skills along the way.
You are eager to embark on a unique journey that blends software engineering with education. This programme is designed for individuals who are passionate about technology and education, and who are ready to make a difference in the lives of students. You are open to learning and adapting, as you will be working in both a corporate environment and a classroom setting. You are committed to developing your skills in software engineering while also gaining the qualifications needed to teach Computer Science in secondary schools.
Experience or a background in software development or teaching is a plus, but not required. A willingness to learn and grow in both fields is essential. You should be comfortable working in a collaborative environment and be excited about the prospect of inspiring the next generation of tech enthusiasts.
You will start your journey at Skyscanner, where you will spend up to 8 months working within an engineering squad. During this time, you will contribute to real-world software projects that help millions of travellers plan their trips more efficiently. You will gain hands-on experience in software development, learning from experienced engineers and applying your skills to build impactful products.
After your initial period at Skyscanner, you will transition to the University of Glasgow to complete a full-time Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) in Computer Science. This qualification will equip you with the necessary skills to teach in Scottish secondary schools. Following your studies, you will split your time between Skyscanner and teaching, allowing you to apply your engineering knowledge in the classroom while continuing to develop your technical skills.
Throughout the programme, you will have the opportunity to inspire students and share your passion for technology. You will engage with learners, helping them understand complex concepts and encouraging them to explore the world of computer science. Your role will be pivotal in shaping the future of aspiring engineers and tech professionals.
Skyscanner offers a supportive environment where you can grow both personally and professionally. You will have access to mentorship from experienced engineers and educators, as well as opportunities for continuous learning and development. The hybrid nature of the programme allows for flexibility, enabling you to balance your work and teaching commitments effectively. Upon completion of the programme, you will have the option to continue your career in the tech industry, transition fully into teaching, or maintain a dual role in both fields. This is a unique opportunity to make a significant impact while advancing your career in software engineering and education.
