Staff Data Engineer - Data AI-Listings & Structured Data

Users, Listings and Marketplaces Data and AI (ULM-DnA) Org is a group of passionate machine learning, data, and analytics engineers responsible for creating new data products that drive quality understanding and bookings. You’ll be part of the overall Guest and Host organization that is responsible for the Airbnb web and native apps used by hundreds of millions of our guests and Hosts.

Listings and Structured Data and AI (LSD-DnA) team is one of the 4 teams of the ULM-DnA org: The LSD-DnA team supports host personalization products and provides data driven solutions to achieve superior host experience on Airbnb. These products include but are not limited to managing your space (MYS), host quality standards etc. We own data pipelines and ML models and will build services for serving that are used in the above areas.

Users, Listings, and Marketplaces are foundational to Airbnb, and the quality of their data is critical to the success of our products and business. To strengthen our data foundation and unlock greater value from our data and machine learning models, we’ve been expanding our Data Engineering efforts across these key areas.

Improving the quality of listing data presents a significant opportunity to enhance the experience for both Hosts and Guests. As a Data Engineer, you’ll collaborate closely with backend and analytics teams, product partners, and fellow data and ML engineers to execute on these opportunities. There is also the chance to work directly with ML engineers to develop integrated data and machine learning solutions. Ultimately, your work will contribute to raising the overall quality of listings on Airbnb and improving the end-to-end product experience.

A Typical Day:

• Architect and productionize batch and real-time data systems to power products for Airbnb Guests and Hosts, or our business/sales teams
• Ensure the quality, performance, and stability of data systems with thoughtful quality systems and monitoring
• Tune, productionize, and optimize data systems powering Airbnb products
• Collaborate with product teams to extract data requirements from product specs to develop scalable and flexible systems 
• Collaborate and build relationships with partner engineering including backend/client, data science, analytics, and ML

Your Expertise:

• 9+ years of relevant industry experience with a Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in CS/EE, or equivalent experience, or 6+ years of experience with a PhD
• Experience collaborating with client, backend, ml, analytics teams, product and business partners
• Experience designing and deploying high performance systems with reliable monitoring and logging practices.
• Effectively work across team boundaries to establish overarching data architecture, data flow, and provide guidance to individual teams.
• Strong knowledge of relational databases and query authoring (SQL).
• Strong expertise with Java / Scala / Spark and operating on data at the petabyte scale.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

This position is US - Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed to with your manager.
