Job Description

Overview

As an enthusiastic and talented mobile/Kotlin software developer, you will join a team that pushes the boundaries of technology to achieve a shared mission: bringing the power of GIS indoors.

We deliver world-class indoor GIS experiences helping users navigate, visualize, and interact with complex indoor environments, while also supporting the full spectrum of location-based capabilities that ArcGIS enables, from indoor positioning to traditional outdoor mapping and navigation. In this role, you will leverage your expertise to not only enhance our positioning engine but also drive new initiatives and explore emerging technologies that advance the functionality of ArcGIS Maps SDK. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to create solutions that work seamlessly across indoor and outdoor contexts, empowering users in various industries.

The Esri R&D Center in Vienna, Austria, leads the research and development of cutting-edge indoor positioning systems technologies used in ArcGIS IPS. By combining radio signal data from Bluetooth Low Energy beacons and Wi-Fi with trajectory information derived from motion sensors on everyday mobile devices, we aim to deliver the world’s best indoor blue dot experience for our users.

Responsibilities

  • Shape the way users of the ArcGIS Maps SDK for Android consume our cutting-edge location technologies and enable them to build unique experiences
  • Develop and maintain code that interfaces with device sensors (such as GNSS, IMU sensors, Bluetooth) to acquire accurate, real-time data streams and deliver them efficiently to positioning algorithms - both in 2D as well as 3D contexts
  • Through collaboration with product engineer colleagues, implement unit tests and automate regression testing to ensure the highest possible quality in all releases
  • Work closely with other internal product and development teams to influence the design of upcoming platform technologies, features, and tools
  • Build compelling demos that showcase common workflows and highlight product features
  • Contribute to an international, cross-platform team, closely collaborating with mobile developers on planning and code reviews

Requirements

  • 2+ years of Android software development experience
  • Excellent knowledge of Kotlin and Android mobile development
  • Demonstrated ability to work on a team that builds quality software
  • Ability to understand new technology concepts quickly and apply them accurately in a rapidly evolving environment
  • Experience with daily Git workflows (branches, review, merge)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Time management, prioritization, teamwork, and interpersonal skills
  • Bachelor’s in computer science, mathematics, GIS or a related field

Recommended Qualifications

  • At least one application on the Google Play Store or an open-source project
  • Experience working with the Android NDK
  • Experience architecting and designing software products
  • Experience with mobile software design patterns and resource limitations on Android
  • Familiarity with Swift programming language
  • Experience developing iOS applications
  • Experience with Esri ArcGIS software or other geospatial technologies
  • Master's in computer science, mathematics, GIS or a related field
