Sr. Tool Design Engineer

Who you are

You have 5+ years of experience in tool design engineering, specifically in high-pressure die casting. Your background includes developing CAD designs from concept through production, ensuring that tooling meets manufacturing requirements. You are proficient in AutoCAD and have a strong understanding of tooling fabrication processes. You thrive in collaborative environments, working closely with product design, simulation, and process engineering teams to establish tooling requirements. Your attention to detail ensures that all aspects of the tooling design, including split lines, slides, and cooling systems, are meticulously planned and executed.

Desirable

Experience with advanced manufacturing methods and commissioning equipment is a plus. Familiarity with materials engineering and the specific challenges of aerospace applications will set you apart. You are comfortable providing feedback to product design teams and have a knack for problem-solving in complex engineering scenarios.

What you'll do

As a Senior Tool Design Engineer at SpaceX, you will lead the development of CAD designs for new die cast tooling, guiding projects from initial concept through to production readiness. You will collaborate with a team of mechanical and process engineers to innovate and refine manufacturing methods that support the production of Starlink components. Your role will involve creating detailed 3D CAD models that tooling suppliers will use for fabrication, ensuring that all designs meet stringent quality and performance standards.

You will also be responsible for establishing tooling requirements that align with production goals, which includes designing cooling systems and ensuring proper ejection mechanisms are in place. Your expertise will be critical in troubleshooting and optimizing tooling designs to enhance manufacturing efficiency and product quality. You will participate in cross-functional meetings to discuss design progress and address any challenges that arise during the tooling development process.
