Job Description

Who you are

You have a Bachelor's degree in Network Engineering or Telecom Engineering, or equivalent practical experience. With at least 6 years of experience in network routing protocols, design, and troubleshooting, you have a strong background working with network equipment providers. You possess 3 years of experience in DWDM or TCP/IP, as well as system design operations methodology. Your expertise includes planning and designing networks across multiple sites and products, ensuring that you can manage complex network environments effectively.

You have experience managing scaled capacity augment/migration projects in a computer networking environment, including data center or colocation environments. Your skills extend to network system design, network architecture, and technology, as well as network infrastructure. You are adept at defining system or process requirements and have experience building, integrating, or delivering layer 1, layer 2, or layer 3 network systems. Your analytical skills are strong, particularly in forecasting, planning, and design tools, as well as workflow automation tooling and improvement.

You are a problem solver with excellent cost-benefit analysis and data analysis skills. You understand the importance of network operations and are committed to ensuring that they are safe and efficient. You are excited about the opportunity to contribute to the automation roadmap, reducing cycle time and improving quality and consistency in network operations.

Desirable

Experience with practical coding is a plus, as it complements your technical skills in network engineering. You are familiar with evolving business processes governing the generation of designs throughout their lifecycle, including input gathering, generation, validation, publication, and handoff. You understand the significance of defining business policies that govern network architecture and topology, hardware lifecycle, and capacity/utilization goals.

What you'll do

As a Senior Network Design Engineer at Google, you will play a crucial role in the Network Engineering team, which is responsible for operating a network that serves millions of Internet users worldwide. You will be involved in the design and feature enhancements that keep our systems running smoothly. Your responsibilities will include monitoring network performance, coordinating planned maintenance, and adjusting hardware components to respond to network demands effectively.

You will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that network operations are efficient and reliable. Your role will require you to engage in the planning and design of networks, ensuring that they meet the needs of multiple sites and products. You will also be responsible for managing projects related to capacity augmentation and migration, ensuring that all network systems are designed to scale effectively.

In addition, you will define system and process requirements, contributing to the development of layer 1, layer 2, and layer 3 network systems. Your expertise in network architecture will be essential as you work to improve the overall performance and reliability of Google's network infrastructure. You will also be expected to contribute to the automation roadmap, helping to streamline processes and improve the quality of network operations.
