Overview

SpaceX is hiring a Senior Metallization Engineer for their Starlink project to lead the production of high-efficiency solar cells. You'll work with advanced processes like chemical etching and PVD in Bastrop, TX.

Job Description

Who you are

You have a strong background in metallization processes, particularly in the context of solar cells, with at least 5 years of experience in a related field. Your expertise includes working with advanced production techniques such as chemical etching, PE-CVD, and PVD, which are critical for developing high-quality solar cells. You are skilled in setting up production lines and have a deep understanding of the lifecycle of production processes, from equipment procurement to commissioning and ramp-up. You thrive in collaborative environments and are passionate about developing innovative solutions that contribute to sustainable energy. You are also adept at mentoring and building a world-class production team, ensuring that quality and efficiency are at the forefront of operations.

Desirable

Experience with wafer inspection tools and gas and chemical distribution systems would be a plus. Familiarity with ultrapure and wastewater treatment equipment is also advantageous, as it aligns with the sustainability goals of the solar cell production line. You are a proactive problem solver who enjoys tackling challenges and optimizing processes for better performance.

What you'll do

As a Senior Metallization Engineer at SpaceX, you will lead the development and implementation of state-of-the-art production processes for solar cells used in Starlink satellites. Your role will involve designing and setting up a greenfield solar cell production plant, which includes everything from layout planning to equipment commissioning. You will develop recipes and processes that ensure the production of high-efficiency solar cells, contributing to the overall mission of providing reliable internet access through advanced satellite technology. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that the production line meets both quality and efficiency standards. Your work will directly impact the performance of Starlink satellites and the future of space exploration.
