SpaceX is seeking a Systems Engineer for the Flight Termination System of Starship. Who you are

You have a strong background in systems engineering, particularly in safety-critical environments, with a focus on hardware design and certification. Your experience includes interfacing with engineering and regulatory partners to ensure compliance with industry standards. You possess a deep understanding of system functionality and requirements, enabling you to take ownership of complex projects from concept through to post-flight reporting.

You are skilled in programming languages such as C and C++, and have experience with Embedded Linux systems. Your technical expertise allows you to tackle challenging problems at the intersection of hardware and safety, ensuring that all designs meet rigorous safety standards. You thrive in fast-paced environments and are adept at managing aggressive development timelines.

Your collaborative nature enables you to work effectively with cross-functional teams, and you are comfortable communicating complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders. You are committed to continuous learning and improvement, always seeking to enhance your skills and knowledge in systems engineering and safety-critical applications.

Desirable

Experience with high explosives and safety-critical hardware is a plus, as is familiarity with regulatory requirements in the aerospace industry. What you'll do

As a Systems Engineer for the Flight Termination System, you will be responsible for the design and certification of critical safety systems for the Starship program. You will define detailed system designs, including interconnect schematics and reliability assessments, ensuring that all components meet stringent safety requirements. Your role will involve close collaboration with engineering teams to develop hardware solutions that are both innovative and compliant with regulatory standards.

You will take ownership of the qualification process for the Flight Termination System, managing per-launch deliverables and ensuring that all systems are ready for mission licensing. Your expertise will be crucial in interfacing with regulatory partners to tailor safety requirements to SpaceX's unique operational context.
