The Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) team is looking for a highly skilled and experienced Applied Scientist. You will develop and implement state-of-the-art algorithms and models for advanced information retrieval, and tune LLM-based prompting to optimize Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) for customer experiences.
As a Senior Applied Scientist, you will play a critical role developing Amazon's foundational Generative AI (Gen AI) technologies that serve our global customers.
Key job responsibilities
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams of engineers, product managers, and scientists to identify and solve complex problems in Gen AI
- Design and execute experiments to evaluate the performance of different algorithms and models, and iterate quickly to improve results
- Think big about the arc of development of Gen AI over a multi-year horizon, and identify new opportunities to apply these technologies to solve real-world problems
- Communicate results and insights to both technical and non-technical audiences, including through presentations and written reports- 3+ years of building machine learning models for business application experience
- PhD, or Master's degree and 6+ years of applied research experience
- Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language
- Experience with neural deep learning methods and machine learning- 3+ years of building machine learning models or developing algorithms for business application experience
- Experience with popular deep learning frameworks such as MxNet and Tensor Flow.
- Knowledge of programming languages such as C/C++, Python, Java or Perl

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $150,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $260,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
