Senior Data Governance Program Manager

Who you are

You have a proven track record in program management, particularly in data governance, with at least 5 years of experience in leading cross-functional initiatives that enhance data quality and security. Your ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels is essential, as you will be driving alignment between the Enterprise Data Team and various departments such as Sales, Marketing, and Finance. You understand the importance of data as a strategic asset and are passionate about implementing best practices in data governance.

You are adept at developing and executing data governance strategies that ensure data is defined, secured, trusted, and used effectively across the organization. Your experience includes working with data management tools and frameworks, and you are familiar with compliance and regulatory requirements related to data governance. You thrive in a collaborative environment and are committed to fostering a culture of data stewardship within the organization.

Desirable

Experience in the software industry, particularly within a DevSecOps context, is a plus. Familiarity with AI and its implications for data governance will set you apart. You are comfortable working in a remote setting and have experience managing teams across different time zones.

What you'll do

In this role, you will be responsible for turning GitLab’s data governance and quality strategy into actionable programs that span multiple functions. You will lead initiatives that improve how data is defined, secured, and utilized, ensuring that all teams understand their roles in data governance. You will collaborate closely with the Enterprise Data Team to establish data governance frameworks and policies that align with GitLab’s overall mission and objectives.

You will facilitate workshops and training sessions to educate team members about data governance principles and practices. Your role will involve monitoring compliance with data governance policies and identifying areas for improvement. You will also be tasked with developing metrics to measure the effectiveness of data governance initiatives and reporting on progress to senior leadership.

Your ability to influence and engage stakeholders will be crucial as you work to embed data governance into the company culture. You will act as a liaison between technical and non-technical teams, ensuring that everyone understands the importance of data governance and their responsibilities in maintaining data integrity.
