Google is seeking an Engineering Manager for Google Chat to lead a team of engineers and oversee major projects. You'll work with Java, Kotlin, JavaScript, and modern web frameworks. This role requires 8+ years of experience in software development and team leadership.
You have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience and at least 8 years of experience in software development. With 4 years of experience in Java or Kotlin, and JavaScript or TypeScript, you are well-versed in web front-end development. Your experience with modern web technologies and frameworks such as React, Angular, Vue, Node.js, Django, and Spring showcases your technical expertise. You have also held a people management role, demonstrating your ability to lead and supervise teams effectively.
Your educational background may include a Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field, and you have 3 years of experience working in a matrixed organization. You are skilled in managing large-scale, multi-quarter technical projects and adept at navigating cross-team dependencies. Your familiarity with stakeholder management allows you to influence and collaborate with other teams and leaders to drive the adoption of new technologies.
As an Engineering Manager at Google, you will not only provide technical leadership to major projects but also manage a team of engineers. You will optimize your own code while ensuring your team can optimize theirs. Your responsibilities will include managing project goals, contributing to product strategy, and helping develop your team. You will establish feedback loops to gauge developer satisfaction and understand the pain points of teams using multiplatform solutions, translating input into improvements for the platform and support processes.
You will oversee the bridge layer that connects the shared Mobile Device Library (MDL) code with native platforms, ensuring seamless integration and performance. Your role will involve influencing your team's roadmaps to drive onboarding and enhance the overall developer experience. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that the engineering efforts align with Google's broader ambitions and goals.
