Overview

Google is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager for their Workspace team to lead the development of large-scale infrastructure and data protection systems. You'll work with technologies like Java and distributed systems, requiring 8+ years of experience in software development and technical leadership.

Job Description

Who you are

You have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience, along with 8 years of experience in software development. Your background includes 7 years of experience building and developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems, or networks, and you have a strong understanding of compute technologies, storage, or hardware architecture. With at least 5 years in a technical leadership role, you have honed your skills in people management and team leadership, ensuring that your teams thrive in a collaborative environment.

Your experience includes building Backup and Recovery (B&R), Disaster Recovery (DR), or data protection systems at scale, and you have managed tier-1 critical infrastructure. You are adept at designing systems that manage Point-in-Time Recovery (PiTR) or incremental data extraction, and you possess a solid understanding of databases such as Spanner and other database technologies, as well as storage solutions like Colossus, Chronicle, and Blobstore. You excel at navigating complex dependencies across multiple internal organizations, ensuring seamless collaboration and communication.

What you'll do

In this role, you will lead a team of engineers focused on developing the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information. You will work on critical projects that require innovative solutions to handle information at massive scale, extending well beyond web search. Your responsibilities will include overseeing the design and implementation of systems that support PiTR and ensuring they can scale to handle large-scale disasters.

You will partner with Spanner, Storage, and other Workspace application teams to ensure that backup solutions meet evolving product requirements and compliance regulations. As the escalation point for critical recovery operations, you will drive a culture of reliability within your team, ensuring that systems are resilient and lack any zonal and regional failures. Your leadership will foster an environment where engineers can bring fresh ideas from various areas, including information retrieval, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking, and data storage.

What we offer

At Google, you will be part of a team that values innovation and collaboration. We offer competitive compensation and benefits, along with opportunities for professional growth and development. You will work in a dynamic environment where your contributions will have a direct impact on the future of technology and how users interact with information. We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement, as we believe diverse teams build better products.
