Google is seeking a Staff Engineer for their Homestack Quality team to enhance search quality and ranking. You'll work with Machine Learning and AI technologies to improve user interactions. This role requires 8+ years of experience in software development and ML infrastructure.
You have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience, along with 8 years of experience in software development. Your expertise includes 5 years in Speech/audio technology, reinforcement learning, or Machine Learning infrastructure, demonstrating your ability to lead ML design and optimize ML infrastructure. You possess strong knowledge of data structures and algorithms, with 8 years of experience in these areas. Your leadership experience spans at least 3 years, where you've successfully led project teams and set technical direction in a matrixed organization.
You are passionate about developing next-generation technologies that impact billions of users globally. Your background includes working with large-scale systems, distributed computing, and artificial intelligence, which equips you to tackle complex challenges in search quality and ranking. You thrive in collaborative environments and are adept at navigating cross-functional projects.
A Master's degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field would be a plus. Experience in testing and launching software products is also highly valued, as is familiarity with core quality teams and model development.
In this role, you will focus on improving the quality and ranking of search results, working closely with core quality teams on Notifications and Discover. You will drive the roadmap for quality infrastructure, model development, and deployment, ensuring that the AI models you build are effective and user-friendly. Your responsibilities will include optimizing features and signals to enhance user interactions and drive visits to search.
You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement innovative solutions that address complex search challenges. Your role will involve leading technical discussions, mentoring junior engineers, and contributing to the overall technical direction of the team. You will also be responsible for debugging and fine-tuning models to ensure they meet performance standards.
