Job Description

Amazon Industrial Robotics is seeking exceptional talent to help develop the next generation of advanced robotics systems that will transform automation at Amazon's scale. Amazon Industrial Robotics is seeking a talented, enthusiastic, and motivated Interdisciplinary Systems Engineer to join a dynamic team that provides leadership for concept development, architecture, and design of robotic systems and industrial equipment. This candidate should be motivated to adapt well-tried systems engineering principles into a new and emerging industry. The preferred candidate would have demonstrated experience in robotics, mechatronics, experience with machine safety and/or functional safety standards and possess excellent communication skills. This position reports directly to the System Architect.

Key job responsibilities
The Interdisciplinary Systems Engineer will:
- Define, expand, and explore the design space for multidisciplinary robotics and automation problems
- Identify and analyze the cross-functional tradeoffs between design alternatives, including impact on subsets of the following: performance, schedule, cost, risk, complexity, and scale
- Break down and frame problems using con-ops, use cases, structural/functional decompositions, and other system representations to clarify needs and align technical teams
- Identify design choices to ensure our products are safe, reliable, and usable, and can be deployed and supported at Amazon scale
- Build quantitative models and analyses (Excel, MATLAB, Python, internal tools) to conduct trade studies, refine requirements, and understand key system drivers across the integrated systems of systems
- Perform technical risk assessments (such as TRL, Gap Analysis, FMEDA, HARA, etc.), devise mitigation plans, and create system test strategies
- Develop and communicate system integration and evaluation strategies and plans in support of program learning, technical risk reduction, verification, and validation
- Drive and prioritize execution of system test campaigns that span lab and field testing environments in partnership with subsystem development and test teams (test readiness reviews, test execution, post-test analysis and reporting)
- Guide and inform, via analyses, cross-functional architecture definition - Bachelor's degree or above in engineering or equivalent STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) field
- 6+ years of relevant professional experience
- Experience participating in or leading technical collaborations and creating alignment across diverse groups (e.g., hardware engineering, software engineering, program management)
- Experience analyzing dependencies, tradeoffs, and sensitivities across multi-disciplinary systems
- Experience with eliciting and clarifying business and end user needs, and linking those needs to system concepts, requirements, and designs- Experience working with the designs of complex automated material, handling equipment, packaging technologies, and systems including robotics and high-speed manufacturing
- Experience with hardware/software integration and real-time systems
- Experience with scalable production systems
- Experience with developing safety-critical systems and assisting with related regulatory compliance needs
- Experience with 1 or more relevant domains: Industrial Automation, Robotic Vehicles/Manipulation, Autonomy, Perception and Controls

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $116,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $201,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
