Airwallex is seeking a Senior/Staff Backend Engineer to drive growth through innovative payment solutions. You'll work with Java and Spring to build scalable systems that support global businesses. This role requires strong backend engineering experience and expertise in API design.
You have 5+ years of backend engineering experience, particularly in building scalable production systems. You’ve owned services from design through deployment and have a knack for debugging complex distributed systems issues. Your expertise in Java and Spring is deep — you’ve shipped high-throughput APIs that handle millions of requests and have strong opinions on service architecture, dependency injection, and testing strategies. You thrive in collaborative environments, working closely with cross-functional teams to turn innovative ideas into real products. You are motivated by the mission of empowering businesses globally and are eager to tackle complex, high-visibility problems. You are humble and collaborative, always looking to learn and grow while helping others do the same.
Experience with cloud platforms like AWS or GCP would be a plus, as well as familiarity with microservices architecture. If you have worked in fintech or have a strong understanding of payment systems, that would be advantageous. You are comfortable using AI tools to enhance your work and solve problems more efficiently.
