Job Description

Do you want to build the future of Amazon Robotics in item manipulation? Join our team if you're passionate about automation and revolutionizing how we fulfill orders to our customers. The Amazon Robotics - Manipulation organization stands at the leading edge of automation, revolutionizing how packages and individual items are handled in our fulfillment centers. From scaling innovative solutions like Robin, which surpassed 5 billion sorted packages this year, to tackling intricate challenges like cart packing and precision item picking from cluttered totes, we’re shaping the future of logistics. We’re searching for a Senior Software Development Engineer to lead and support the team in driving impactful ideas from the ground up, author tech strategies and influence the vision and project roadmap. In this role, you’ll design and build sophisticated systems and components, seamlessly operating at the edge and in the cloud. You will work closely with a world-class team of scientists and engineers to create the architecture that plans work for our advanced manipulation robots and the tools we use to support and learn from our growing number of deployed systems.

Key job responsibilities
- Lead Design and Development: Architect, develop, and maintain high-performance software that powers advanced manipulation, planning for robotic systems in dynamic environments.
- Transition Innovation to Production: Collaborate with scientists and engineers to transition innovative features from prototypes to robust, scalable solutions suitable for production at Amazon scale.
- Handle Complexities and Edge Cases: Architect and implement software systems that effectively manage the chaos and edge cases inherent in real-world robotics applications.
- Optimize Data Pipelines: Build and optimize data pipelines that track performance, generate insights, and support machine learning models for continuous system improvement.
- Enhance Observability Tools: Create and improve monitoring and observability tools for tracking, debugging, and learning across global deployments.
- Mentorship and Leadership: Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership to the team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
- Integration and Validation: Integrate, test, and validate new features on live systems, ensuring they meet stringent performance and reliability standards.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with experts across disciplines—including perception, hardware, and software—to create intelligent, integrated systems and solutions.

- 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
- 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team- 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $151,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $261,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
