Job Description

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in a policy, legal, Trust and Safety, engineering, or other technology environment.
  • Experience in one or more of the following: developing, drafting, implementing, and maintaining platform, developer, or product policies; engaging with online policy issues; engaging with content abuse, privacy, or other tech law/regulation; or, product management focused on product and user safety.
  • Experience in one or more of the following: AI-related policy issues, APIs, hardware, devices, or related products.

Preferred qualifications:

  • JD, MBA, or Master’s degree.
  • Knowledge of the technology sector, key policy issues affecting the internet (e.g., harmful content, privacy, AI), or safety engineering.
  • Ability to translate complex issues into simple and clear language, collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders, and navigate organizational boundaries.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, public settings, and in writing, and identify/gather insights and communicate complex technology policy issues.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills with attention to detail in an ever-changing environment.
  • Experience with mobile ecosystems (including developers).

Trust & Safety team members are tasked with identifying and taking on the biggest problems that challenge the safety and integrity of our products. They use technical know-how, excellent problem-solving skills, user insights, and proactive communication to protect users and our partners from abuse across Google products like Search, Maps, Gmail, and Google Ads. On this team, you're a big-picture thinker and strategic team-player with a passion for doing what’s right. You work globally and cross-functionally with Google engineers and product managers to identify and fight abuse and fraud cases at Google speed - with urgency. And you take pride in knowing that every day you are working hard to promote trust in Google and ensuring the highest levels of user safety.

In this role, you will support the Platforms and Devices Product Area and will require collaboration with stakeholders across Product, Engineering, Responsible AI, Legal, Regulatory, PR, and Government Affairs to enable the growth of the Platforms and Devices business and product innovation by promoting trust as well as mitigating safety, regulatory and reputational risks. It will include work on external policies (Content and Abuse Policy, Acceptable Use Policy, and Terms of Service) and their implementation, internal policies (frameworks, guidelines, and taxonomies) as well as advising product on responsible development, launch, product feature, and strategy, including on Responsible AI.

We partner with teams across Google to deliver bold solutions in abuse areas such as malware, spam and account hijacking. A team of Analysts, Policy Specialists, Engineers, and Program Managers, we work to reduce risk and fight abuse across all of Google’s products, protecting our users, advertisers, and publishers across the globe in over 40 languages.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $129,000-$189,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.   • Identify and analyze novel policy issues facing technology platforms, make recommendations on how to address them, and manage high-impact policy escalations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure policy analysis and policy recommendations consider all teams’ perspectives, while also driving awareness and understanding of our product policies, and resolving high-profile policy issues coming from the public, regulators, users, customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Develop and advance first principles that define our approach to trust risk areas, while also researching and collaborating to set industry standards. 
  • Work in ambiguity and in dynamic environments performing when new information, projects, and decisions may arise rapidly.
  • Work with sensitive content or situations and be exposed to graphic, controversial, or upsetting topics or content.
