Overview

Skyscanner is offering a unique Software Engineering & Teaching Programme that combines hands-on engineering experience with teaching qualifications. You'll work on real-world software projects while pursuing a PGDE in Computer Science. This role is ideal for those looking to bridge the gap between industry and education.

Job Description

Who you are

You are eager to embark on a unique journey that combines software engineering with teaching. You are ready to learn and grow in both fields, gaining practical experience at Skyscanner while also pursuing a PGDE in Computer Science. You have a passion for technology and education, and you are excited about the opportunity to inspire the next generation of computer scientists. You are adaptable and open to new experiences, ready to take on the challenges of both the tech industry and the classroom.

What you'll do

You will start your adventure at Skyscanner, where you will spend up to 8 months working within an engineering squad, contributing to production systems that help millions of travellers. During this time, you will gain hands-on experience in software development, collaborating with experienced engineers and learning best practices in the field. After your initial period at Skyscanner, you will transition to the University of Glasgow to complete a full-time PGDE in Computer Science, equipping you with the skills and qualifications needed to teach in Scottish secondary schools. Once you have completed your PGDE, you will split your time between Skyscanner and teaching, spending 3 days a week building software and 2 days a week inspiring students in the classroom. This programme offers a unique opportunity to develop your technical skills while also making a positive impact on the education of young learners.

What we offer

Skyscanner provides a supportive environment where you can grow both as a software engineer and as an educator. You will have access to mentorship from experienced professionals in the tech industry, as well as support from educators at the University of Glasgow. This programme is designed to help you develop a well-rounded skill set that prepares you for a successful career in either industry or education. You will also have the flexibility to choose your path after the programme ends, whether you want to continue in software engineering, transition fully into teaching, or maintain a balance between both roles. Skyscanner values diversity and encourages applicants from all backgrounds to apply, fostering an inclusive culture that celebrates different perspectives.
