N26 is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer for their GDPR Team to ensure compliance and security within their global banking platform. You'll work with Java and microservices to maintain GDPR-compliant data retention systems. This role requires strong experience in backend engineering and data privacy.
You have 5+ years of backend engineering experience, particularly in building production systems that prioritize compliance and security. Your expertise in Java and microservices allows you to design and implement robust solutions that meet regulatory requirements. You understand the intricacies of data privacy and have experience working with GDPR compliance, ensuring that systems are not only functional but also secure and compliant.
You thrive in collaborative environments, working closely with cross-functional teams to onboard services to the GDPR platform. Your ability to clarify scope and ensure robust monitoring demonstrates your commitment to maintaining high standards in data management. You are proactive in providing technical and compliance support to other teams, helping them navigate the complexities of GDPR requirements.
Your experience includes migrating legacy systems to modern solutions, showcasing your skills in process improvement and system architecture. You are comfortable with data type discovery and mapping microservices to GDPR data types, ensuring that all aspects of data retention and deletion are meticulously handled.

In this role, you will take ownership of the internal platforms used for GDPR-compliant data retention and deletion. You will maintain and evolve these platforms, ensuring they meet the highest standards of compliance and security. Your responsibilities will include onboarding teams and services to the GDPR platform, clarifying scope while ensuring robust monitoring and clear ownership.
You will collaborate closely with the Legal Data Privacy Team to map microservices to Core Systems Domain GDPR data types and retention periods. This involves understanding the data lifecycle and ensuring that all data handling practices align with GDPR regulations.
You will also focus on process improvement, migrating and consolidating GDPR deletion logic from legacy stored procedures to modern client solutions. This will require a deep understanding of both the technical and regulatory aspects of data management.
Your role will involve providing technical and compliance support to other teams, helping them understand and implement GDPR requirements effectively. You will work alongside your Tech Lead to architect new features, ensuring that they are designed with compliance in mind from the outset.
