Cobalt.io is seeking an Associate Security Researcher to bridge the gap between offensive and defensive security. You'll leverage your systems administration background to support security research and assist in threat simulations. This role is ideal for candidates looking to transition into security research.
You have a foundational background in Systems Administration and are eager to transition into security research. You understand the importance of both offensive and defensive security practices and are motivated to learn and grow in this field. You are detail-oriented and capable of maintaining high-quality documentation of research findings and processes. You are comfortable working in a collaborative environment, assisting in threat simulations while documenting detection gaps and defensive improvements. You are committed to continuous learning and are excited about evolving from foundational sysadmin tasks into deep offensive security research. You possess strong analytical skills and are capable of performing data collection and log analysis to support senior researchers.
Experience with security tools and frameworks is a plus, as is familiarity with vulnerability assessment methodologies. A passion for cybersecurity and a desire to understand the intricacies of system defenses will set you apart in this role.
As an Associate Security Researcher at Cobalt, you will be the backbone of our research operations, handling foundational tasks that power high-level research. You will leverage your sysadmin background to set up research environments and manage lab infrastructure, ensuring that our tooling is stable and effective. You will assist in simulating threats as part of our Purple Team collaboration, helping to identify detection gaps and suggest defensive improvements. Your role will involve performing data collection, log analysis, and initial vulnerability triaging to support senior researchers in their efforts. You will maintain high-quality documentation of research findings, scripts, and internal wikis, ensuring that knowledge is shared and accessible within the team. You will engage in a structured growth path, evolving from foundational sysadmin tasks into deep offensive security research, and will have opportunities for technical authorship and quality control within the TPM organization.
