Overview

Amazon is seeking a Systems Engineer to lead operations for the European Sovereign Cloud initiative. You'll work with AWS services like EC2, S3, and DynamoDB to ensure high availability for EU customers. This role requires a strong background in automation and operations.

Who you are

You have a strong background in systems engineering and DevOps, with experience in automation and operations. You understand the intricacies of building and maintaining high-availability services, and you are comfortable collaborating with global teams to drive initiatives forward. Your expertise in AWS services, including EC2, S3, and DynamoDB, positions you well to contribute to the European Sovereign Cloud project. You are proactive in identifying areas for improvement in system performance and reliability, ensuring that services meet the highest standards for EU customers.

You are familiar with the challenges of utility computing and have a track record of successfully launching and managing complex projects. Your ability to work under pressure and participate in on-call rotations demonstrates your commitment to operational excellence. You thrive in environments where you can influence technology evolution and enhance day-to-day operations.

What you'll do

In this role, you will oversee the launch of the European Sovereign Cloud in 2025, working closely with AWS teams to ensure a seamless rollout. You will play a pivotal role in building and leading operations and development teams dedicated to delivering high-availability AWS services. Your responsibilities will include collaborating with technology leaders to enhance system performance, reliability, and efficiency. You will contribute to the design and implementation of scalable services that meet the needs of EU customers.

You will be involved in day-to-day operations, ensuring that services are running smoothly and efficiently. Your role will require you to analyze system performance metrics and implement improvements as necessary. You will also participate in on-call rotations to resolve incidents that occur outside of regular hours, ensuring that customer satisfaction remains a top priority.
