Job Description

Netflix is one of the world's leading entertainment services, with over 300 million paid memberships in over 190 countries enjoying TV series, films and games across a wide variety of genres and languages. Members can play, pause and resume watching as much as they want, anytime, anywhere, and can change their plans at any time.

At Netflix, delivering brilliant streaming experiences to millions of viewers worldwide requires seamless partnerships with device manufacturers and payment providers. Client and Partner Technologies (CPT) makes this possible by enabling Netflix on partner devices - from TVs and set-top boxes to streaming hardware - while building the foundational client systems and tools that power these integrations.

A critical part of this mission is handled by our Enablement Apps group, which builds the applications and backend services that empower Netflix to integrate with device and payment partners quickly and reliably. Our goal is simple but powerful: make space to bring the best Netflix experience to everyone, everywhere.

About the Team

Within Enablement Apps, we have 2 teams: Partner Operations & Stakeholder Acceleration (POSA) and Devices Capabilities (DeCap).

In the POSA team we focus specifically on Payment Enablement and foundational backend services. Being part of our team you will have an impact on  ensuring that Netflix's payment partnerships run smoothly at scale. From secure commercial data distribution to integration monitoring and transparency tools, your work will influence how our platforms support 1000+ external partner users across all global regions and numerous internal stakeholders who manage payment partner integrations and business operations.

The DeCap team provides tools and services that enable the management of Netflix-supported devices - including SoCs (Systems on a Chip), ODMs (Original Design Manufacturers), and TVs - along with their associated capabilities.Being part of this team you  will have influence on empowering other teams across Netflix to leverage this Device data for both technical and business decision-making.

If you're passionate about backend engineering at scale, excited to drive meaningful architectural decisions, and eager to make a tangible impact on how Netflix connects with its partners around the world, we'd love to hear from you!

What You Will Do:

As a senior engineer on the team, you'll have opportunities to work on high-impact initiatives including:

  • Lead strategic platform initiatives – Our team owns several multi-year projects transforming how Netflix securely distributes commercial data to 1000+ global partner users. You'll have the opportunity to drive critical architecture decisions for data modeling, report generation pipelines, and programmatic consumption capabilities.

  • Build partner integration monitoring and transparency solutions – Contribute to building capabilities that enable internal teams and external partners to track integration health, diagnose issues proactively, and access actionable insights post-launch.

  • Drive cross-functional collaboration – Work closely with data engineering teams, platform engineering teams, and other cross-functional partners to deliver end-to-end solutions across the integration lifecycle.

  • Evolve legacy systems and address architectural debt – Make pragmatic decisions to modernize legacy Node-based services to Java-based architectures, identify architectural improvements, and drive incremental migration strategies while maintaining business continuity.

  • Mentor and support team growth – Share your backend and JVM expertise through thoughtful code reviews, technical guidance, and modeling best practices in system design and implementation.

What We're Looking For:

Required:

  • Expertise in server-side Java (JVM) is preferred – Most of our new backend services are Java-based, and we're actively migrating legacy systems to this stack. You'll be leading architectural decisions in this ecosystem.

  • Expertise in other Backend languages (like Python, Ruby, .Net) is also welcome – For the DeCap team, we’re considering the engineers who are excited to learn Java and fully transition to working in this language.

  • Experience with systems architecture – Ability to identify architectural improvements, drive incremental migration strategies, and make trade-off decisions that balance immediate business needs with long-term technical health.

  • Strong project leadership and ownership – You independently lead complex projects from concept to completion, taking ownership of technical roadmaps and making thoughtful decisions that balance business impact with technical excellence.

  • Clear communication and cross-functional collaboration – Articulate complex technical ideas effectively to diverse audiences including Product Managers, internal stakeholders, business operations teams, and external partners across multiple time zones.

  • Commitment to quality and maintainability – Build reliable, scalable systems with comprehensive monitoring, alerting, documentation, and runbooks. Set the bar for engineering excellence on the team.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with GraphQL – Our organization is investing heavily in federated GraphQL architectures. Engineers who can establish best practices and mentor others will have immediate impact. If you don't have GraphQL experience yet, we'll support your learning.

  • Experience with frontend technologies, particularly React – While this is primarily a backend role, familiarity with React and UI development is valuable as Netflix's frontend stack is heavily built on React and GraphQL.

  • Data modeling and analytics skills – Experience with modeling data for both transactional operations and analytical reporting is a plus. Familiarity with the differences between OLTP and OLAP design patterns would be beneficial for our reporting platform initiatives.

Inclusion is a Netflix value and we strive to host a meaningful interview experience for all candidates. If you want an accommodation/adjustment for a disability or any other reason during the hiring process, please send a request to your recruiting partner.

We are an equal-opportunity employer and celebrate diversity, recognizing that diversity builds stronger teams. We approach diversity and inclusion seriously and thoughtfully. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, ancestry, national origin, caste, sex, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity or expression, age, disability, medical condition, pregnancy, genetic makeup, marital status, or military service.
