Job Description

Join us in the evolution of Amazon’s Seller business! The Selling Partner (SP) Growth organization is the growth and development engine for our Store. Partnering with business, product, and engineering, we catalyze SP growth with comprehensive and accurate data, unique insights, and actionable recommendations and collaborate with WW SP facing teams to drive adoption and create feedback loops. We strongly believe that any motivated SP should be able to grow their businesses and reach their full potential supported by Amazon tools and resources.

We are looking for a Principal Economist to lead us to drive the science vision of our SP growth strategy and drive new seller success. As a successful Principal economist on our talented team of applied scientists and economists, you will articulate the science vision, exert cross-org influence and drive delivery through collaborating with engineering, research, and business teams for future innovation. You need to be a big thinker who loves brining clarity for ambiguous problem statements and a strong collaborator who partners well with colleagues with different background and disciplines. We prefer candidates with strong causal ML knowledge. You will also continue to contribute to the research community, by working with scientists across Amazon, as well as collaborating with academic researchers and publishing papers (www.aboutamazon.com/research).

Key job responsibilities
As a Principal Economist in the team, you will:
- Identify opportunities to improve SP growth and articulate a bold vision that drives step changes in business
- Work with our various business stakeholders and technical partners to drive alignment on executable science roadmap
- Advocate for the team and communicate at the executive level
- Mentor and guide the applied scientists and economists in our organization and hold us to a high standard of science rigor
- Be responsible for communicating our science innovations to the broader internal & external scientific community.- PhD in Economics or closely related field.
- 8+ years of experience in industry, consulting, government or academic research post graduate school
- Expertise in causal inference- Strong background in econometrics, statistics methodology, machine learning, applications to business problems
- Track record of connecting ambiguous business problems to science via driving a coherent science vision
- Experience with programming languages such as Python is a plus.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced business environment.
- Effective verbal and written communications skills.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $170,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $294,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
