Waymo is seeking a Senior Design Engineer, ASIC to work on high-performance custom silicon for autonomous vehicles. You'll collaborate with researchers and architects to translate requirements into hardware features. This role requires expertise in C, C++, and Python.
You have 5+ years of experience in ASIC design and a strong background in hardware engineering — you've successfully translated high-level requirements into detailed hardware specifications and designs. Your expertise in C and C++ allows you to develop efficient and reliable hardware solutions, while your proficiency in Python enables you to automate and streamline design processes. You are familiar with embedded Linux systems and understand the intricacies of hardware-software integration, ensuring optimal performance of the systems you design.
You thrive in multidisciplinary teams and enjoy collaborating with researchers and architects — your communication skills help you articulate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. You are detail-oriented and have a strong analytical mindset, allowing you to identify potential issues early in the design process and propose effective solutions. You are passionate about advancing technology in the automotive industry and are excited about the potential of autonomous driving.
Experience with high-performance computing and custom silicon design is a plus — you have a keen interest in pushing the boundaries of performance, power, and latency in your designs. Familiarity with simulation tools and methodologies will help you validate your designs effectively. You are also open to learning new technologies and methodologies that can enhance your work and contribute to the team's success.
In this role, you will work closely with researchers and architects to translate high-level requirements into ASIC hardware features — your contributions will directly impact the performance of the Waymo Driver, the world's most experienced driver. You will specify, architect, and design interconnects and accelerators that process sensor data, ensuring that the hardware meets the demanding requirements of autonomous driving applications.
You will collaborate with software engineers to optimize the hardware-software interface, ensuring seamless integration and maximum performance. Your role will involve conducting design reviews and providing feedback to peers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement within the team. You will also participate in testing and validation of the hardware, working to identify and resolve any issues that arise during the development process.
As part of the Compute Team, you will contribute to the overall architecture of the compute platform responsible for running the fully autonomous vehicle's software stack — your work will help shape the future of mobility and improve access to transportation for people everywhere. You will have the opportunity to mentor junior engineers and share your knowledge, helping to build a strong and capable team.
Waymo offers a competitive salary range of $204,000—$259,000 USD, along with eligibility for an annual bonus program and equity incentive plan.
