Overview

Reddit is seeking a Senior Android Engineer for their Apps Platform team to enhance developer efficiency and build core app components. You'll work with Java and Kotlin to create high-performance, fault-tolerant applications. This role requires 5+ years of Android development experience.

Job Description

Who you are

You have 5+ years of experience in Android development, demonstrating a strong command of Java and Kotlin. Your solid software engineering fundamentals enable you to tackle the challenges of building data-intensive and highly responsive applications in the constrained environment of smartphones. You embrace the opportunity to learn new ways to build software and are willing to innovate beyond conventional trends.

Your expertise includes a deep understanding of performance monitoring and optimization, allowing you to contribute effectively to the core components of the app, such as networking and caching stacks. You are passionate about improving developer efficiency and enjoy collaborating with other engineers to provide libraries, APIs, and frameworks that enhance the overall development experience.

You thrive in a team-oriented environment, where your contributions help shape the direction of the codebase. You are comfortable defining design patterns and technologies that will be employed at Reddit, ensuring that the engineering team can scale effectively without a linear increase in team size. Your ability to communicate complex ideas clearly makes you a valuable asset to cross-functional teams.

Desirable

Experience with performance optimization techniques and tools is a plus, as is familiarity with building shared components that can be utilized across multiple applications. You may also have experience in mentoring junior engineers, helping them grow their skills and understanding of best practices in Android development.

What you'll do

As a Senior Android Engineer at Reddit, you will play a crucial role in the Apps Platform team, which serves as a foundation for all mobile engineers at the company. Your primary responsibility will be to enhance developer efficiency by creating and maintaining libraries, APIs, and frameworks that other engineers can build upon. You will monitor performance metrics and work on improving build tools to ensure that the development process is as smooth and efficient as possible.

You will be responsible for owning the core components of the app, including the networking and caching stack. This involves defining the design patterns and technologies that will guide the development of the codebase. As the engineering team scales, you will innovate and build new processes to support a growing number of customers without the need for a proportional increase in team size.

Collaboration is key in this role, as you will work closely with other engineers to identify pain points in the development process and propose solutions that enhance productivity. You will also engage in code reviews, ensuring that best practices are followed and that the quality of the codebase remains high.

What we offer

Reddit offers a dynamic work environment where you can make a significant impact on the development of our mobile applications. You will have the opportunity to work with a talented team of engineers who are passionate about building high-quality software. We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement, as we value diverse perspectives and backgrounds.

In addition to a competitive salary, we provide a range of benefits designed to support your well-being and professional growth. You will have access to resources that foster continuous learning and development, ensuring that you can stay at the forefront of Android engineering practices. Join us at Reddit and help shape the future of our mobile applications.
