Who you are

You have over 12 years of experience in programming, debugging, and performance tuning distributed and highly concurrent C/C++ software systems — your deep understanding of systems fundamentals allows you to tackle complex challenges effectively. Your expertise in multi-threaded programming and performance profiling has equipped you with the skills to optimize system performance and ensure robustness. You are familiar with database internals and have experience building core components for data processing systems, which gives you a solid foundation for this role. Your knowledge of the observability ecosystem and best practices enables you to implement effective monitoring solutions. You possess excellent verbal and written technical communication skills, which help you collaborate effectively with colleagues and mentor engineers. Your strong time and project management skills allow you to make realistic assessments of project timelines and deliverables.

Desirable

Experience with OpenTelemetry is a plus, as it aligns with our current initiatives to enhance observability within our systems. A background in low-level systems and networking expertise will be beneficial as you work closely with the team to build a faster and more reliable database system.

What you'll do

As a Senior Staff Engineer, you will lead efforts in building infrastructure for low-overhead observability and communication between MongoDB Server nodes, clients, and other services. Your role will involve working closely with the Networking & Observability Team to ensure that our systems are performant and robust. You will be responsible for integrating OpenTelemetry into our architecture, which will accelerate the diagnosis of performance issues and test failures. You will champion a culture of inclusivity, diversity, and collaboration within the team, ensuring that all voices are heard and valued. Your technical leadership will guide the team in applying low-level systems and networking expertise to enhance the foundational infrastructure of our popular database. You will also mentor junior engineers, sharing your knowledge and experience to help them grow in their careers.
