SpaceX is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer to provide engineering design support and expertise in fire protection and life safety systems. You'll work on building code compliance and fire hazard assessments at SpaceX's launch facilities in Cape Canaveral, FL.
You have a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and possess a strong understanding of fire protection engineering principles. You are experienced in fire hazard and risk assessment, building and fire codes, and life safety systems. Your analytical skills allow you to conduct thorough evaluations of materials and processes related to fire safety. You are detail-oriented and capable of developing compliance documents and technical reports. You thrive in collaborative environments, working closely with construction teams and other engineering disciplines to ensure safety standards are met.
Experience with hazardous materials analysis and fire investigation support is a plus. Familiarity with performance-based design criteria and local authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) processes will enhance your effectiveness in this role.
As a Fire Protection Engineer at SpaceX, you will support engineering design, analysis, and specifications for facility fire and life safety systems. You will develop building and fire code compliance documents and create fire life safety designs specifically for SpaceX launch facilities. Your role will involve conducting hazardous material analyses to ensure compliance with safety regulations, including chemical classification and inventory management. You will collaborate with facility construction teams to devise field solutions and support commissioning activities during pre-test and AHJ testing phases for new builds. Additionally, you will conduct fire and life safety code reviews and analyses, preparing and presenting technical reports to stakeholders. Your expertise will be crucial in developing Alternate Means & Methods (AM&M) to meet performance-based design criteria, ensuring that all safety measures align with the intent of the code.
