Overview

Google is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer specializing in AI Workload Management to develop large-scale infrastructure and distributed systems. You'll leverage your expertise in machine learning and infrastructure automation while working in Kirkland or Sunnyvale.

Job Description

Who you are

You have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience, along with 8 years of experience in software development. Your background includes 7 years of experience building and developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems, or networks, and you possess a deep understanding of compute technologies, storage, or hardware architecture. With 5 years of experience in design and architecture, you have successfully tested and launched software products. You may also hold a Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field, which enhances your qualifications. Your expertise extends to data structures and algorithms, with at least 8 years of experience in this area. You have spent 5 years in a technical leadership role, guiding project teams and setting technical direction, and you are comfortable working in a matrixed organization that involves cross-functional or cross-business projects. Your familiarity with infrastructure automation tools and concepts is a significant asset, and you have the ability to quickly assimilate knowledge in machine learning and AI, focusing on understanding the underlying hardware and software stacks.

What you'll do

As a Senior Staff Software Engineer at Google, you will develop the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information. Your role will involve translating vague requirements into concrete, scalable technical solutions while contributing back to the global open-source community. You will be responsible for scaling the engineering organization by mentoring talent into leadership roles, mitigating operational risks, and driving cross-functional alignment with key partners to deliver unified software stacks. You will work on projects that require a deep understanding of distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking, and data storage, ensuring that Google's products can handle information at massive scale. Your contributions will directly impact the performance and reliability of Google's infrastructure, and you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that the software you develop meets the highest standards of quality and efficiency.

What we offer

At Google, you will be part of a team that values innovation and collaboration. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package, along with opportunities for professional growth and development. You will work in an environment that encourages creativity and supports your career aspirations. Our culture promotes diversity and inclusion, and we believe that diverse teams build better products. We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement — curiosity, empathy, and a growth mindset matter just as much to us. Join us in shaping the future of technology and making a meaningful impact on the world.
