C++Python

Overview

SpaceX is seeking a Software Engineer specializing in Numerical Modelling to develop and maintain a multi-physics simulation engine. You'll work with C++ and Python to enhance manufacturing processes for various SpaceX programs.

Job Description

Who you are

You have strong software development experience, particularly in C++ and Python, which enables you to contribute effectively to the Numerical Modelling team at SpaceX. Your background allows you to understand complex software architecture and quality assurance processes, ensuring that the simulation software meets the high standards required for aerospace manufacturing. You are eager to learn and collaborate with experts in solidification physics, casting, and metallurgy, even if you do not have prior experience in these specific areas. Your problem-solving skills and attention to detail will help you troubleshoot and debug issues related to software integration and simulation accuracy.

You thrive in a collaborative environment, working closely with cross-functional teams to integrate computational fluid dynamics (CFD) tools, meshing software, and CAD platforms into the simulation engine. Your ability to communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders will be crucial in driving projects forward and ensuring alignment on objectives. You are motivated by the challenge of pushing the boundaries of manufacturing technology and are excited about the potential impact of your work on SpaceX's mission to enable human life on Mars.

Desirable

While experience with casting or solidification is not required, a desire to learn about these processes will set you apart. Familiarity with machine learning and AI concepts will also be beneficial as you leverage these technologies to enhance simulation efficiency.

What you'll do

As a Software Engineer on the Numerical Modelling team, you will own the software architecture and quality of the simulation software used across SpaceX. Your primary responsibility will be to develop and optimize next-generation software that integrates various tools for multi-physics simulations. You will build advanced interfaces for viewing and interpreting simulation results, ensuring that the software is user-friendly and effective for engineers across the organization.

You will troubleshoot and debug issues related to software integration, meshing quality, and simulation accuracy, working closely with other engineers to resolve challenges as they arise. Your role will involve collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure that the simulation engine meets the needs of various manufacturing processes, including those for the Raptor, Starship, and Starlink programs.

Additionally, you will leverage machine learning and AI to create faster and more efficient simulations, contributing to the continuous improvement of manufacturing technologies at SpaceX. Your work will directly impact the production rates and quality of parts, pushing the boundaries of what is possible in aerospace manufacturing.

What we offer

At SpaceX, you will be part of a mission-driven team that is dedicated to making space exploration a reality. We offer competitive compensation and benefits, along with opportunities for professional growth and development. You will work in a dynamic environment where innovation is encouraged, and your contributions will have a meaningful impact on the future of humanity in space. Join us in our quest to explore the stars and make a difference in the world of aerospace engineering.
