You have over 12 years of experience in programming, debugging, and performance tuning distributed and highly concurrent C/C++ software systems — your deep understanding of systems fundamentals allows you to tackle complex challenges effectively. You possess strong expertise in multi-threaded programming and performance profiling, which enables you to optimize system performance and ensure robustness.

Your familiarity with database internals or building core components for data processing systems sets you apart — you understand the intricacies of how databases operate and can contribute to their improvement. You are well-versed in the observability ecosystem and best practices, allowing you to implement effective monitoring solutions.

Excellent verbal and written technical communication skills are part of your toolkit — you thrive in collaborative environments and enjoy mentoring engineers, sharing your knowledge, and fostering a culture of inclusivity and diversity within your team. Your time and project management skills are exceptional, enabling you to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines efficiently.

What you'll do

As a Senior Staff Engineer, you will lead efforts in building infrastructure for low-overhead observability and communication between MongoDB Server nodes, clients, and other services — your work will have a significant impact on the performance and robustness of the database. You will engage in proof-of-concept projects aimed at optimizing the RPC stack’s architecture, ensuring it meets high-performance standards.

You will collaborate closely with your team to integrate OpenTelemetry into the existing systems, accelerating the diagnosis of performance issues and test failures — your contributions will help shape the foundational infrastructure of a popular database. You will be a deeply technical leader, applying your low-level systems and networking expertise to drive innovation and improvements.
