Within AIS and Data Center Engineering, the Mechanical Solutions team is driving rapid innovation in Mechanical Cooling and Controls systems used by AWS. Our designs are fundamentally changing the Data Center, providing operational and financial benefits that are critical to the success of the AWS business, and its millions of customers. Our engineers solve challenging technology problems and take big bets on new concepts enabling AWS services to continue to revolutionize the industry. This role provides the opportunity to engage with and lead the Sustaining or Product Lifecycle Engineering aspect for these advanced cloud infrastructure solutions and the exceptional people that develop them.
AWS is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to be part of a global engineering team responsible for ownership and continuous improvement related to Mechanical (Cooling) infrastructure products within our rapidly expanding data center footprint.
We are looking for engineers with hands on Mechanical and Manufacturing experience of Mechanical (Cooling) products. If you have experience leading product design of Mechanical products, have an understanding of Mechanical Systems, and know how products should be manufactured to ensure quality you may be a good fit. You should be capable of understanding detailed Mechanical equipment specifications and evaluating the merit and risks of design changes.
As a Data Center Product Engineer, you will provide Mechanical infrastructure support to AWS data centers. You will collaborate with the product development team to gain deep understanding of all facets of each product as they are being developed and tested, and then have engineering ownership of the product through its operational life. You will be a global ‘go-to’ engineering resource for Mechanical AWS products deployed in data centers.
Amazon has a global presence. Intermittent travel will be necessary and should be expected to be around 30%. While most travel will be domestic, some international travel may be necessary.
Key job responsibilities
• Collaborate with internal and external ecosystem partners to design and develop industry leading data center mechanical product solutions.
• Perform advance component selections to optimize product designs and create energy / water analysis on expected product performance.
• Create detailed product design drawings using common industry software programs capable of being manufactured at select vendors and contract manufacturers.
• Collaborate with partner teams to incorporate mechanical product solutions into overall data center design.

Will also accept equivalent domain specific technical experience in lieu of a degree.
• 5+ years of experience in product design development/HVAC design/related product development and fluent with common industry drawing applications
• Thorough understanding and use of principals, theories and concepts in mechanical engineering.
• Masters or PhD in Mechanical Engineering.
• Deep understanding of data center mechanical systems and cooling control schemes.
• Prior experience working with an interdisciplinary team to execute product designs from concept to production including specification, design, prototyping, validation and testing.
• Experience with full lifecycle and proficiency at completing tasks to meet associated milestones.
• Familiarity of product verification using testing and experience for product certification testing by third party lab.
• Experience evaluating design, performance and logistical tradeoffs for rack and room level products.
• Proficient in 5+ years with FEA and CFD-based analysis tools.
• Demonstrated understanding of engineering documentation, electrical and mechanical diagrams, and standard operating procedures.
• Experience designing air- or water-cooled systems for high-heat density applications.
• Knowledge of industry standards such as ASHRAE, NFPA, ANSI etc.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $105,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
