We are in the business of delivering exceptional storytelling. We produce award-winning scripted and unscripted Original Series, such as “Boyhood”, “Anna”, and “SNL Korea”. We believe Sports can also be elevated by creative storytelling. Play is now an authoritative destination for Sports, broadcasting K-League, La Liga, Bundesliga, F1, NFL, and other leading leagues and tournaments. We also offer some of the latest movies that were just released in local theaters, bringing more exceptional storytelling to our Customers. 

To ensure that we deliver all content seamlessly, we invest in Engineering, Product, and Design. Coupang Play is available on all mobile devices, tablets, PC, Smart TV, Apple TV, and Android TV. Our teams keep optimizing how Customers discover and stream both VOD and Live content. That includes investments in frontend, backend, and infrastructural developments. We also embrace Machine Learning to refine our CX.

Role Overview 

The Streaming Player and Experience team aims to deliver the best viewing experience to Coupang Play users.

We work across the entire playback stack – from the playback engine to the user interface – continuously improving UI/UX and building new viewing-experience features to create a more seamless and immersive streaming environment. We continuously enhance playback performance through data-driven diagnostics and technical insights, ensuring stable and high-quality streaming across all platforms.

Our team collaborates closely with Video Infrastructure, Product, Design, and other cross-functional partners to elevate the overall viewing experience end-to-end.

 

As an iOS engineer on the Streaming Player and Experience team, you will design and enhance playback services which shape a better viewing experience across Apple platforms, including iOS and tvOS. Your role includes designing scalable and flexible architectures that reliably support viewing-experience features such as Live Time-Machine (DVR) and Multi-View. You will also contribute to continuous performance improvements through data-driven iteration and technical analysis. You will play a key role in delivering a differentiated and immersive viewing experience for Coupang Play users.

 

What You Will Do 

• Create better viewing experiences by building new features and improving the UI/UX of the Coupang Play service
• Design, develop and optimize features that elevate the streaming playback experience
• Architect and evolve the core playback service to support scalability, modularity, and cross-platform consistency
• Continuously improve playback quality, performance, and user experience through technical deep dives, data analysis, and A/B testing
• Collaborate with teams across Streaming Pipeline, Product, and Design teams to deliver best streaming quality and user experience

 

Minimum Qualifications 

• Bachelor’s degree and 4+ years of professional software development experience with strong Swift skills
• Experience with A/B testing and metrics analysis
• Ability to design scalable architecture, to write clean, testable, efficient code, and to measure performance
• Strong verbal and written communication and collaboration skills

 

Preferred Qualifications 

• Experience in large-scale streaming services, player feature development, or performance optimization
• Experience with media codecs (AAC, AVC, HEVC, or AV1) and streaming protocols (HLS, DASH)
• Expertise in media related frameworks such as AVFoundation or VideoToolBox
• Expertise in digital rights management (DRM) such as Widevine, Fairplay and PlayReady
