Overview

Motional is seeking a Staff Cybersecurity Engineer to define and lead the security architecture for their autonomous driving platform. You'll work with AWS and industry standards to ensure robust security controls. This role requires 8+ years of experience in product security, particularly in autonomous systems.

Job Description

Who you are

You have over 8 years of experience in product security, with a strong focus on autonomous systems, robotics, automotive, or safety-critical embedded systems. Your expertise in defining and leading security architecture is complemented by your ability to address complex attack vectors, such as GPS spoofing and adversarial machine learning. You are well-versed in industry standards like ISO/SAE 21434 and UNECE WP.29 R155, ensuring that security requirements are not only met but exceeded.

Your technical oversight extends to Managed Security Service Providers (MSSPs), where you define monitoring requirements and validate service effectiveness. You thrive in collaborative environments, working closely with engineering teams to enforce security requirements and develop robust security controls for safety-critical components. Your leadership skills enable you to serve as the technical authority on security for AI/ML, robotics, hardware, and systems engineering teams.

Desirable

Experience with threat modeling methodologies such as STRIDE and TARA is a plus, as is familiarity with high-performance compute and sensor arrays. You have a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating risks in autonomous driving systems, and your ability to communicate complex security concepts to diverse teams sets you apart.

What you'll do

In this role, you will define, lead, and own the security architecture for Motional's autonomous driving platform, which includes critical components like the perception stack, sensor fusion, localization, and path planning systems. You will architect robust security controls that ensure the safety and reliability of these systems, addressing complex attack vectors and implementing effective countermeasures.

You will lead comprehensive threat modeling efforts, utilizing methodologies such as STRIDE and TARA to identify potential vulnerabilities in autonomous driving systems. Your work will involve designing secure architectures for vehicle-to-cloud communication, over-the-air (OTA) updates, and high-volume data telemetry, leveraging AWS services to enhance security and efficiency.

As the lead technical authority, you will provide guidance and oversight to engineering teams, ensuring that security requirements are integrated into the development process. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to enforce security standards and best practices, fostering a culture of security awareness throughout the organization.

What we offer

Motional offers a dynamic work environment where innovation and collaboration are at the forefront. You will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technology that is shaping the future of autonomous driving. We provide competitive compensation and benefits, along with a commitment to professional development and growth.

Join us in our mission to create safe and reliable autonomous vehicles. We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement — your unique perspective and skills could be the perfect fit for our team.
