Job Description

Are you passionate about sustainability and interested in driving packaging waste reduction efforts across Amazon? We're looking for an experienced, driven, analytical, and creative Senior Manager to define the strategy and lead the execution of the packaging sustainability roadmap in the European Sustainable Packaging Team. This is your opportunity to be part of a core Team that actively delights Amazon customers while reducing packaging waste, and promoting circularity. In this position you have the chance to make a direct impact to the customers, and to the environment at scale.
The European Sustainable Packaging team owns the programs that reduce the outbound packaging material weight per shipment aiming to lessen the burden of packaging waste management for customers, decrease fulfilment cost and carbon emissions. We are a team of Data Engineers, Product Managers, Packaging and Process Improvement Experts that interfaces with core Sustainability, Operations, Engineering, Amazon Robotics, Finance, Procurement, Legal, Public Relations to identify solutions that eliminate waste, reduce damage, driving significant savings for Amazon and ultimately delights our customers. In this role, you will both think big and execute, creating solutions that scale across the billions of products Amazon sells. You will use your communication, negotiation and influencing skills to drive consensus across multiple stakeholders while driving Sustainability initiatives that deliver the best-in-class Sustainability experience for customers around the world.
In this strategic leadership role, you will drive Amazon's packaging initiatives by leading and developing a team of program managers responsible for end-to-end business case development and implementation. Success in this position requires exceptional ability to synthesize complex business requirements, technical constraints, and operational considerations into actionable strategies. You will leverage deep expertise in packaging materials, operational processes, and supply chains to evaluate and champion innovative packaging solutions that optimize costs, sustainability, and customer experience. Your team will be responsible for designing and executing operational test plans, analyzing results, and scaling successful solutions across the network.
This highly visible position requires strategic thinking, program management excellence, and the ability to influence at senior levels. You will build and maintain strong partnerships across the organization, develop robust tracking mechanisms, and create clear roadmaps that align stakeholders and drive results. Your success will be measured by your ability to deliver complex, interconnected initiatives that create lasting value for Amazon's operations and customers while meeting high bar business objectives.
The ability to work independently and deal with an ambiguous environment is a must. Ownership of work and Think Big are extremely important, and candidates should have a proven record of driving projects and strategic initiatives to their completion. The ideal candidate is motivated, agile, with strong time management and project management skills. In addition, this opportunity requires excellent troubleshooting, problem solving, and the ability to succeed in a fast-paced, technical environment.
You should not only be passionate about delivering extensible, on-time solutions, but should also be obsessed with contributing to the development of high-performance teams through rigorous goal-setting, disciplined attention to performance metrics, continuous process improvement, and mentorship.

Key job responsibilities
• Lead and develop a team of high-performance program managers
• Provide strategic direction, coaching, and mentorship to develop the skills and capabilities of the team. Fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the team.
• Define and drive the implementation of sustainable packaging process improvement initiatives in alignment with the overall Amazon Sustainable Packaging Strategy.
• Balance business needs, technical constraints, and sustainability requirements to optimize outcomes.
• Implement robust management mechanism to drive consistency, efficiency, and quality in initiatives covering end-to-end fulfilment operations.
• Identify and lead the implementation of best practices in system configuration, and trouble ticketing management system to attend operations at scale.
• Develop scalable systems and workflows to support the consistent and efficient delivery of sustainable packaging solutions.
• Serve as a strategic partner to senior leaders, collaborating on long-term planning and decision-making.
• Effectively communicate progress, challenges, and recommendations to key stakeholders across the organization.
• Lead business reviews and planning processes for Packaging Experience and Sustainable Packaging.
• Analyze performance data, identify areas for improvement, and propose data-driven strategies to enhance process efficiency.
• Actively contribute to the development of the European Sustainable Packaging Strategy and translate it into executable Operational Plans.
• Proactively identify and mitigate risks associated with sustainable packaging operations.• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Packaging • Extensive experience in development and or deployment of operational changes • Proven successful experience of people management and career development • Proven experience in senior stakeholder management and building corporate relationships within and across cross-functional stakeholders • Proven experience guiding the work of technical resources through project management • Proven ability to manage large and complicated projects with experience leading cross-functional projects and teams • Exceptional interpersonal and technical communication skills, both written and verbal • Structured strategical thinking and problem-solving ability; • Analytical skills including data analysis • Independent self-starter with a sense of urgency and a desire to be part of building something new • Experience working across countries • Strong drive for results and comfort in taking calculated risks.• Experience in technical product, material characterization, or packaging quality control • Prior experience in retail operations and/or supply chain management • Experience designing from ground up • Six Sigma and/or Lean experience • Proven experience and understanding of material end-of-life and circular economy.
