Job Description

Project Kuiper is Amazon’s low Earth orbit satellite broadband network. Its mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet to customers and communities around the world, and we’ve designed the system with the capacity, flexibility, and performance to serve a wide range of customers, from individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity.

Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

The Production Test Engineer will support test operators and operations by coordinating, maintaining, and improving testing hardware and software capabilities for a variety of different propulsion subsystems: PCBAs, feed systems, electric propulsion thrusters, tanks, and integrated propulsion systems.

The Propulsion Test Engineer will support existing test processes and hardware in order to ensure the needed test coverage is achieved at production rates. This will include coordinating tests, training test operators, resolving test nonconformances, building up additional test stations, and implementing methods of optimizing testing.

In support of maintaining the production delivery rate, this position is intended to support weekend operations after a on-boarding period of weekday support.


Key job responsibilities
- This position will support weekend operations (Friday-Monday, 10-hour days) after an on-boarding period of weekday support.
- Disposition and resolve test failures and flight hardware non-conformances
- Improve test automation, data acquisition, and data analysis to improve test efficiency and cycle times
- Work with hardware subsystem owners to ensure test coverage is maintained across flight hardware design update cycles
- Work with hardware subsystem owners to refine test requirements and the methodologies to test against those requirements
- Train operators in the execution of developed testing and processes.

A day in the life
You will coordinate and support a variety of hardware tests of propulsion subsystems to ensure the hardware meets acceptance requirements for flight. You will also work closely with multiple internal engineering teams to identify process improvements, disposition and resolve non-conformances, and generally improve test efficiency. To be successful in the fast-paced environment, you will need to be detail oriented and motivated to apply your technical expertise to optimize your work to the highest standards of execution.


About the team
The Kuiper Propulsion Team is responsible for the design and development of the propulsion system which provides maneuvering capability to the spacecraft. The Propulsion Team is made up of a variety of sub-teams which are responsible for various aspects of the development and production process, such as mechanical design, systems engineering, subject matter experts, manufacturing, and test. This integrated team structure allows direct communication and rapid process feedback while also promoting close collaboration across the team.
- Must be able to work Friday through Monday, 10-hour shifts, following initial weekday onboarding period
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or equivalent experience
- 1+ years experience developing or optimizing manufacturing or test processes
- 1+ years experience investigating and resolving hardware and test failures
- 1+ years experience working within space flight production environment- Experience maintaining and improving test processes in a production environment
- Experience working with production quality processes
- Experience aggregating test and hardware yield and test results
- Experience developing automation or control software
- Experience with electrical test equipment and data acquisition systems
- Experience developing software with Python, LabVIEW, or TestStand
- Experience testing electric propulsion systems or their subsystems
- Experience developing and operating pressurized fluid systems in aerospace environments

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $86,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
