Overview

SpaceX is hiring a Mechanical Engineer for their Sensors team to design and test innovative sensing solutions for the Starship avionics. You'll work with AutoCAD, MATLAB, and SolidWorks to develop sensor designs that can withstand the harsh conditions of space. This role requires a Bachelor's degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering and hands-on experience with sensors.

Who you are

You have a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or aerospace engineering and possess hands-on experience working with various sensors such as accelerometers, pressure sensors, and temperature sensors. Your background includes designing mechanical aspects of sensor packages that can survive launch and space environments. You are skilled in conducting mechanical analysis and testing, ensuring that your designs meet rigorous standards. You thrive in interdisciplinary teams and are eager to collaborate with engineers from different specialties to achieve innovative solutions. You have experience with analytical and finite element modeling, which allows you to create robust designs that can withstand extreme conditions. You are detail-oriented and have a strong understanding of tolerance analysis and failure analysis related to thermal loads, vibration, and shock.

What you'll do

As a Mechanical Engineer on the Sensor Development team, you will be responsible for designing innovative sensor packages that are critical for the success of SpaceX's mission to enable human life on Mars. You will develop sensor designs that can withstand the harsh conditions of launch and space environments, ensuring their reliability and functionality. Your role will involve building analytical and finite element thermal, structural, and fatigue models to validate your designs. You will create 3D models and production 2D drawings, completing tolerance analysis to ensure manufacturability at high volumes. You will also interface with vendors and production teams to ensure that your designs can be manufactured efficiently. Additionally, you will conduct failure analysis of components, focusing on their performance under thermal loads, vibration, and shock. Your contributions will play a vital role in advancing SpaceX's technology and mission objectives.
