Job Description

Prime Video is disrupting traditional media with an ever-increasing selection of movies, TV shows, Emmy Award winning original content, add-on subscriptions including HBO and Showtime, and live events like Thursday Night Football. Within this expanding ecosystem, Linear TV (24/7 Television or broadcast programming) has emerged as one of our fastest-growing segments, with viewership hours increasing significantly year over year. This growth demonstrates that even in the streaming era, customers deeply value the lean-back, curated experience that Linear TV provides.

Our data shows that Linear TV viewers develop strong habitual viewing patterns, spending more time on the platform and engaging more consistently than traditional VOD-only users. The key to supporting these viewing habits is providing seamless, personalized discovery experiences through robust and scalable services. The Linear Discovery Service (LDS) team owns the critical infrastructure that determines how Live TV content is presented to customers - from the composition of the homepage experience to search capabilities that help customers find live programming. We decide what content collections and carousels appear on Linear pages, their ordering, and how search results are ranked and displayed across all Prime Video clients, ensuring millions of customers can easily find and enjoy their favorite live programming.

This is your opportunity to take an active role in shaping how customers discover and interact with Live TV on Prime Video. We need your passion, innovative ideas, and creativity to help continue to deliver on our ambitious goals of creating intuitive, personalized, and responsive discovery experiences at scale.

Key job responsibilities
As a Software Development Engineer on the Linear Discovery Service team, you will:

* Design and implement the page composition engine that determines what carousels and content collections appear on Linear pages
* Build intelligent ordering systems that optimize the placement of content sections based on customer behavior and business rules
* Develop and maintain search services specifically optimized for Linear content, including live programs, channels, and upcoming shows
* Build and maintain scalable services that integrate with recommendation systems to provide personalized content listings
* Develop robust caching and content delivery mechanisms to ensure low-latency responses for millions of concurrent users
* Collaborate with client teams to evolve page composition and search APIs based on new feature requirements
* Work with the Linear Personalization team to integrate recommendations into page composition and search ranking
* Drive improvements in monitoring, alerting, and operational excellence
* Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team's technical growth

A day in the life
You'll work on services that directly shape how millions of customers discover and engage with Live TV content. Your day might involve analyzing the performance of a new carousel ordering algorithm, optimizing search relevance for an upcoming major linear event or designing a solution for real-time program updates. You'll balance performance, scalability, and maintainability while ensuring our services meet the high standards our customers expect.

About the team
The Linear Discovery Service team owns the end-to-end discovery experience for Live TV content across Prime Video. We determine what customers see when they land on Linear pages through our page composition engine, how they search for live content, and how content is presented to them. We work closely with Linear client teams and the Linear Personalization team to deliver personalized, responsive, and intuitive browsing experiences. Our services handle millions of requests per day, providing real-time content information, search results, and page composition decisions to customers worldwide.

Our mission is to make Live TV content discovery on Prime Video seamless and engaging, helping customers easily find the content they love while discovering new programs that match their interests. We're focused on building intelligent, scalable services that can grow with our rapidly expanding Linear TV audience while maintaining the high performance our customers expect.
