Within the Advertising Sales organization, we are building a central AI/ML team and are seeking a top science leader to build new, Generative AI powered services that will transform the way account teams operate. This includes building autonomously orchestrated AI Agents that directly connect with advertisers, as well as core AI services that augment internal products with improved embeddings, fine-tuned LLMs and custom guardrails.
As a part of our team, you will bring deep expertise in Natural Language Processing (NLP), Reinforcement Learning (RL), Deep Learning (DL), Large Language Models (LLM) and/or Generative Artificial Intelligence to build and refine models that can be implemented in production. You will be a thought leader as we chart new courses with our ad sales support technologies, and you have the communication skills necessary to explain complex technical approaches to a variety of stakeholders, leaders and customers. We are seeking a true owner who can provide science leadership, establish a vision and charter for the team, foster a collaborative and innovative team environment, and manage a team of scientists and software engineers to drive long-term success. Key job responsibilities
- Drive end-to-end applied science projects that have a high degree of ambiguity, scale and complexity
- Provide technical / science leadership related to Large Language Models, Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Reinforcement Learning (RL) .
- Research new and innovative Machine Learning / Artificial Intelligence approaches.
- Recruit high performing Applied Scientists to the team and provide mentorship.
- Establish team mechanisms, including team building, vision setting, planning, and document reviews.
About the team
Sales AI is a central science and engineering organization within Amazon Advertising Sales that powers selling motions and account team workflows via state-of-the-art of AI/ML services. Sales AI is investing in a range of sales intelligence models, including the development of advertiser insights, recommendations and Generative AI-powered applications throughout account team workflows.- 3+ years of scientists or machine learning engineers management experience
- Knowledge of ML, NLP, Information Retrieval and Analytics
- Ph.D. in Computer Science, Information Retrieval, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Reinforcement Learning, Mathematics, or a related field plus 5 years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree plus 10 years of relevant work experience
- 2+ years demonstrated experience with Large Language Model (LLM) and Foundational Model post-training, continual pre-training, fine-tuning, or reinforcement learning techniques.
- Scientific publication track record at top-tier AI/ML/NLP conferences or journals- Experience building machine learning models or developing algorithms for business application
- Proven track record of delivering scalable and high-quality ML/ NLP / Gen AI solutions (models and infrastructure) to customers and experience with building conversational experiences and AI agents.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences, including senior leadership.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $165,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $286,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
