SpaceX is seeking a Senior Supplier Development Engineer to support the Starship program by enabling suppliers for success through comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing and quality tools. This role requires practical experience in manufacturing engineering and new product development.
You have a strong background in manufacturing engineering with at least 5 years of experience in supplier development, particularly in the aerospace or automotive industries. Your expertise includes a thorough understanding of quality tools and methodologies that ensure premium quality in rapidly evolving designs. You are motivated by the challenge of enabling suppliers to meet ambitious production volumes and have a proven track record of solving complex technical challenges. Your leadership skills allow you to effectively communicate with suppliers and internal teams, ensuring alignment on project goals and timelines.
You possess a broad understanding of component fabrication methodologies, including machining, welding, and inspections. Your hands-on experience with various fabrication processes equips you to tackle emergent challenges effectively. You are comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and are eager to take on new challenges in unfamiliar areas to support SpaceX's mission to enable human life on Mars.
Experience with advanced manufacturing techniques and a background in new product development are highly desirable. Familiarity with rocket and rocket engine fabrication processes will set you apart as a candidate. You are also encouraged to bring innovative ideas to the table, contributing to the continuous improvement of supplier capabilities and processes.
In this role, you will serve as the technical point of contact for assigned parts and assemblies of the Starship rocket. You will work closely with suppliers to solve emergent challenges and mitigate risks associated with component fabrication. Your responsibilities will include conducting thorough assessments of supplier capabilities and performance, ensuring they meet SpaceX's stringent quality standards. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive improvements in manufacturing processes and supplier performance, ultimately contributing to the success of the Starship program.
You will lead initiatives to enhance supplier capabilities, providing guidance and support to ensure they can meet the evolving demands of SpaceX's ambitious projects. Your role will involve regular communication with suppliers, addressing any issues that arise during production and implementing corrective actions as necessary. You will also participate in design reviews and provide feedback on manufacturability, ensuring that new designs are optimized for production.
