Overview

Google is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to drive ecosystem growth through data analysis and insights. You'll utilize Python, R, and SQL to solve complex business problems and influence product decisions. This role requires a Master's degree and significant experience in data science.

Job Description

Who you are

You have a Master's degree in Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Economics, Operations Research, Engineering, or a related quantitative field, along with at least 5 years of experience using analytics to solve product or business problems. Your coding skills in Python, R, and SQL are strong, and you are adept at querying databases and performing statistical analysis. If you hold a PhD, you can qualify with 3 years of relevant experience. You have a solid background in statistical data analysis, experimental design, and causal inference, and you have demonstrated technical leadership in your previous roles. Your communication and presentation skills are exceptional, allowing you to effectively convey complex findings to cross-functional stakeholders.

Desirable

A PhD in a relevant quantitative field is preferred, along with 3 years of experience applying advanced statistical and machine learning methods to solve business problems. You are experienced in framing and solving unstructured business problems with data science, translating results into actionable business recommendations, and measuring the success of those initiatives. Familiarity with large-scale, distributed datasets and AI evaluation techniques is a plus.

What you'll do

In this role, you will be part of the Growth and Notifications (GaNT) Data Science team, where your mission will be to deliver the best of Google's products to users by enabling high-quality notifications and driving growth across the ecosystem. You will work closely with a team of data scientists and analysts to embed a deep, empirical understanding of user behavior into the product development lifecycle. Your responsibilities will include defining, implementing, and owning key metrics to measure the quality, impact, and value of notifications and user-state models. You will analyze user journeys and engagement models, focusing on long-term causal effects across the Google ecosystem. Your insights will directly influence the product roadmap, as you translate complex findings into actionable product recommendations and present them to stakeholders at all levels.

What we offer

Google offers a collaborative and innovative work environment where you can thrive as a data scientist. You will have the opportunity to work on impactful projects that shape the future of Google's products. The company values diversity and encourages you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement. Competitive compensation and benefits are part of the package, ensuring that you are rewarded for your contributions to the team and the company.
