Coupang is hiring a Staff Database Engineer to design, implement, and maintain automated infrastructure for high availability and performance optimization. You'll work with technologies like MySQL, DynamoDB, and Python. This position requires over 10 years of database operations experience.
You have over 10 years of experience in database operations, with a strong focus on MySQL at a senior level. Your expertise includes managing various database technologies such as DynamoDB and Cassandra, and you have a proven track record of building automated, scalable infrastructures. You are skilled in using Python for developing automation tools and code, and you have experience with NewSQL databases like TiDB and Spanner. Your business communication and leadership skills have been honed over 5 years, allowing you to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
You possess a solid understanding of AWS-based data management technologies and have hands-on experience with Terraform for infrastructure as code. Your knowledge extends to CI/CD tools, load balancing, and DNS concepts, which are essential for maintaining high-performance systems. You are familiar with container technologies like Docker and orchestration tools such as Kubernetes, enabling you to implement modern software engineering practices in your work.
Experience with monitoring and logging systems to optimize performance and proactively detect issues is a plus. You thrive in agile environments and have strong problem-solving abilities, allowing you to adapt quickly to changing requirements and challenges.
In this role, you will design, implement, and maintain automated infrastructure to ensure consistency and scalability across Coupang's database systems. You will build monitoring and logging systems to optimize performance and stability, proactively identifying and resolving issues. Managing hundreds of databases, including Aurora/MySQL and DynamoDB, will be a key responsibility, where you will perform tasks such as performance tuning, backup, and disaster recovery strategies.
You will collaborate with various teams, including application development, infrastructure, and TPM, to improve database processes and support operational issues. Your participation in on-call rotations will ensure that you are directly involved in maintaining the reliability of our systems. You will also lead efforts to migrate Aurora MySQL to NewSQL, enhancing our database capabilities.
