Job Description

Who you are

You have a Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Software Engineering, Information Management, or a related field, along with 5 years of experience in building software using modern programming languages such as Kotlin and Python. You possess a strong understanding of designing full-stack software solutions that are robust and maintainable, and you are adept at creating tools and libraries that provide foundational functionality for consumer-facing applications.

Your experience includes maintaining, improving, testing, building, and releasing pipelines, ensuring that the software you develop meets the demands of rapid business growth. You are skilled at incorporating needs and opinions from stakeholders, advocating for ideas and initiatives, and providing guidance on core application architectural decisions. You thrive in collaborative environments, working with engineers across the organization on project definition, technical specifications, task breakdown, delivery, monitoring, and maintenance.

You are committed to generating designs for new functionalities that are not only robust but also scalable and maintainable. You write code that is easily understood and leveraged by others, and you take pride in mentoring less-experienced team members through code reviews and by establishing best coding practices. You are passionate about creating a friendly and honest credit experience for consumers, aligning with Affirm's mission.

Desirable

Experience with additional programming languages or frameworks is a plus, as is familiarity with agile methodologies and modern development practices. You are open to learning new technologies and adapting to the evolving needs of the business.

What you'll do

In this role, you will design and develop software for Affirm's consumer-facing mobile and web applications, ensuring that they are user-friendly and efficient. You will create tools and libraries that support the core functionalities of these applications, contributing to the overall user experience. Your responsibilities will include maintaining and improving existing software, as well as building and managing release pipelines to ensure smooth deployments.

You will work closely with stakeholders to gather requirements and advocate for their needs, translating them into actionable technical specifications. Your role will involve providing guidance on architectural decisions, ensuring that the software is built to scale and can handle the demands of a growing user base. You will collaborate with other engineers on project definitions and task breakdowns, ensuring that everyone is aligned on deliverables and timelines.

As part of your commitment to quality, you will generate designs for new functionalities that are robust and maintainable, and you will write code that is clear and easy for others to understand. You will also provide support for questions regarding the implementation of the consumer-facing application and the tooling built around it. Mentoring less-experienced team members will be a key part of your role, as you help them develop their skills and establish best practices within the team.

What we offer

You will be part of a team that values collaboration, innovation, and a commitment to creating a better financial experience for users. We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement, as we believe in the potential of diverse backgrounds and perspectives. Join us in our mission to make credit more honest and friendly.
