SpaceX is hiring a Friction Stir Welding Technician to set up and operate machines for creating friction stir welds on launch vehicles. You'll work with precision measuring tools and perform maintenance on complex systems. This role requires 1+ years of experience in machining, welding, or metal fabrication.
You have a high school diploma or equivalency certificate and at least 1+ years of experience with machining, welding, or metal fabrication. Your background includes working in a manufacturing or production environment, ideally within the aerospace industry. You possess the ability to interpret electronic work instructions, process specifications, and technical drawings, and you can perform basic shop math, including geometry and trigonometry. You are familiar with PLC troubleshooting, HMIs, and NC programming, and you have experience with surface and sub-surface NDE methodologies such as dye penetrant inspection or ultrasonic inspection. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are part of your skill set, enabling you to collaborate effectively with your team.
In this role, you will set up and operate large, motion-controlled machines to create friction stir welds on launch vehicles. You will perform precision blending using hand tools to prepare metallic surfaces for welding and non-destructive evaluation. Periodic maintenance on machines with complex pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical systems will be part of your responsibilities. You will accurately use precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and torque wrenches to ensure high-quality work. Additionally, you will assist with area projects aimed at improving safety, quality, and delivery within the team.
