Overview

Reddit is seeking a Senior Android Engineer for their Apps Platform team to enhance developer efficiency and build core app components. You'll work with Java and Kotlin to create high-performance, data-intensive applications. This role requires 5+ years of Android development experience.

Job Description

Who you are

You have 5+ years of experience in Android development, showcasing your expertise in building data-intensive, highly responsive, and fault-tolerant applications. Your strong software engineering fundamentals enable you to embrace challenges and innovate in the constrained environment of mobile devices. You are proficient in Java or Kotlin, and you are eager to learn new technologies and methodologies to enhance your software development practices. You understand the importance of performance monitoring and are committed to improving developer efficiency through shared components and libraries.

Desirable

You have a passion for building applications that serve a large user base, and you are comfortable working in a collaborative environment where your customers are primarily other engineers. Your willingness to buck trends and explore new ways of building software sets you apart as a forward-thinking engineer. You thrive in a culture that values open and authentic conversations, aligning with Reddit's mission to foster community.

What you'll do

As a Senior Android Engineer at Reddit, you will play a crucial role in the Apps Platform team, which serves as a foundation for all mobile engineers at the company. Your primary responsibility will be to enhance developer efficiency by providing libraries, APIs, and frameworks that other engineers can build upon. You will own the core components of the app, including the networking and caching stack, ensuring they are optimized for performance and reliability.

You will collaborate closely with other engineers to define design patterns and technologies that will shape the future of Reddit's mobile applications. Your insights will help innovate and build new processes that support a growing number of customers without the need for linear team expansion. You will also monitor performance metrics and identify areas for improvement, ensuring that the applications remain responsive and efficient.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to mentor junior engineers, sharing your knowledge and experience to help them grow in their careers. You will participate in code reviews, providing constructive feedback and fostering a culture of continuous improvement within the team. Your contributions will directly impact the user experience for millions of Reddit users, making your work both challenging and rewarding.

What we offer

Reddit offers a dynamic work environment where you can thrive as part of a diverse team. You will have the flexibility to work remotely from anywhere in the United States, allowing you to balance your professional and personal life effectively. We value your contributions and are committed to providing opportunities for professional growth and development.

Join us at Reddit, where you can be part of a community that values open dialogue and collaboration. We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement, as we believe in the potential of diverse backgrounds and perspectives to drive innovation.
