Senior Backend Engineer - Intercom

Who you are

You have 7+ years of backend engineering experience building production systems at scale — you've owned services from design through deployment and have navigated the complexities of debugging distributed systems. You possess deep expertise in Java and Spring — you've shipped high-throughput APIs that handle significant traffic and have strong opinions on service architecture and testing strategies. You thrive in environments where you can take a less-than-fully-fleshed-out product idea and drive it to completion, demonstrating your ability to deliver best-in-class products and experiences. You are excited by new products and startups, and you understand the importance of collaboration with firmware, mobile, and frontend engineers to develop innovative solutions. You hold a BS or a graduate degree in Computer Science, Maths, Engineering, or a related field, which has equipped you with a solid foundation in technical principles.

Desirable

Experience with cloud-managed systems or physical security solutions would be a plus, as would familiarity with intercom technologies. You are comfortable working in a startup-like environment within a larger organization, where autonomy and ownership are encouraged. You have a track record of successfully collaborating with cross-functional teams to bring products to market.

What you'll do

As a Senior Backend Engineer at Verkada, you will be part of a small, dynamic team focused on building our cloud-managed intercom systems. You will collaborate closely with firmware, mobile, and frontend engineers to develop and enhance our intercom product line, which is already off to a strong start. Your responsibilities will include designing and implementing backend services that support our intercom systems, ensuring they are scalable, reliable, and secure. You will also be involved in the entire software development lifecycle, from initial concept through deployment and ongoing maintenance. You will have the opportunity to influence the architecture and design of our systems, contributing to the overall success of our product offerings.
