Overview

Waymo is seeking a Technical Program Manager to drive alignment on requirements and milestones between Systems & Software teams and OEM vehicle partners. This role involves hands-on management of technical and operational issues, requiring a strong background in software engineering and project management.

Job Description

Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company with the mission to be the world's most trusted driver. Since its start as the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, Waymo has focused on building the Waymo Driver—The World's Most Experienced Driver™—to improve access to mobility while saving thousands of lives now lost to traffic crashes. The Waymo Driver powers Waymo’s fully autonomous ride-hail service and can also be applied to a range of vehicle platforms and product use cases. The Waymo Driver has provided over ten million rider-only trips, enabled by its experience autonomously driving over 100 million miles on public roads and tens of billions in simulation across 15+ U.S. states.

Technical Program Managers are accountable for executing Waymo’s roadmap working closely with every function at Waymo, in particular Engineering. TPM’s drive alignment on goals and tasks, execute towards them, and communicate with a broad range of stakeholders. In this role be prepared to roll up your sleeves and dive deep into technical issues, work broadly across our OEMs and Waymo, and be part of developing new approaches to support our scaling needs.

You will:

  • Drive alignment on requirements and milestones between Waymo’s Systems & Software teams and our OEM vehicle partners.
  • Establish appropriate software development and release processes to manage software from the OEMs through to deployment on Waymo vehicles.
  • Be hands on with day to day technical and operational issues.
  • Prioritize, advocate for, and own execution towards various milestones across numerous (competing) programs.
  • Communicate synthesized status and risks to a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Improve engineering execution velocity through improved processes and streamlining.

You have:

  • A BS or MS degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent
  • Strong technical abilities - 5+ years experience developing software at vehicle OEMs/Tier1s.
  • Strong project management experience -  5+ years technical product or program management experience 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; experience crafting compelling messages for multiple audiences; the ability to effectively influence and communicate cross-functionally
  • Ability to deliver to a high standard under pressure in a rapidly evolving environment

We prefer:

  • Experience in robotics or autonomous or assisted driving vehicles preferred
  • Experience with software release management
  • Professional Working Proficiency in Korean and/or Japanese

The expected base salary range for this full-time position across US locations is listed below. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for the role location or, if the role can be performed remote, the specific salary range for your preferred location, during the hiring process. 

Waymo employees are also eligible to participate in Waymo’s discretionary annual bonus program, equity incentive plan, and generous Company benefits program, subject to eligibility requirements. 

Salary Range
$230,000—$292,000 USD
