Who you are

You have at least 5 years of experience in a management position, ideally with a background in leading engineering teams. Your experience includes managing engineering managers, which is a significant plus. You have a proven track record of hiring, mentoring, and developing strong, geographically distributed software engineering teams. You are committed to fostering a diverse and supportive culture within your team, understanding that a variety of perspectives leads to better outcomes. Your excellent verbal and written technical communication skills enable you to collaborate effectively across teams. You possess strong time management skills and can realistically assess project complexity, ensuring that your team meets its ambitious growth goals.

You have a deep understanding of distributed systems and have successfully designed, written, tested, and maintained such systems in your previous roles. Your experience with MongoDB is critical, as you will be leading efforts to enhance migration and recovery processes for MongoDB clusters. You are passionate about building scalable and performant solutions that minimize downtime and ensure data integrity during migrations.

What you'll do

As the Director of Engineering, you will lead the Cluster to Cluster Synchronization team, focusing on making the migration and recovery of MongoDB clusters easy, fast, and reliable. You will oversee the development of scalable migration tooling, such as mongosync, and modern disaster recovery systems as part of the Atlas Live Migration service. Your leadership will be crucial in ensuring that the tooling developed is critical for migrating enterprise workloads into Atlas and maintaining important data workloads during outages. You will work closely with your team to meet ambitious growth goals for both people and projects, fostering an environment of collaboration and innovation.

You will be responsible for setting the strategic direction for the team, ensuring alignment with MongoDB's overall goals. Your role will involve regular communication with stakeholders to report on progress and gather feedback, ensuring that the team's efforts are aligned with customer needs and market demands. You will also play a key role in recruiting top talent to join your team, ensuring that MongoDB continues to build a strong engineering culture.
