Overview

SpaceX is seeking a TIG Welder to join their team at Starbase, TX, focusing on building the primary airframe of the Starship and Super Heavy vehicles. This role requires expertise in GTAW welding and metal fabrication.

Job Description

Who you are

You have experience in welding, specifically with GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) techniques, and are skilled in fabricating metal components to precise dimensions. You understand the importance of collaborating with lead welders to assess the proper welding procedures, materials, and rod sizes for each project. You are capable of analyzing engineering drawings and specifications to effectively plan welding operations, even when procedural information is not readily available. You are committed to continuous improvement, always looking for ways to enhance operations, reduce turnaround times, and streamline work processes.

You thrive in a team environment, working alongside other fabricators and technicians to achieve build efficiency. Your communication skills enable you to effectively interact with management, engineering staff, and planners to ensure that projects are completed efficiently and effectively. You are adaptable and willing to perform other related duties as assigned to maintain a productive work environment.

Desirable

Experience with large-scale structures and assemblies is a plus, as is familiarity with the aerospace industry. A background in working with advanced materials and technologies will enhance your ability to contribute to the innovative projects at SpaceX.

What you'll do

As a TIG Welder at SpaceX, you will be responsible for building the primary airframe of the Starship and Super Heavy vehicles. Your role will involve performing GTAW class A welds and fabricating various metal components, including cylindrical structures and tank bulkheads. You will collaborate closely with lead welders to ensure that all welding procedures are followed accurately, and you will assess the type of material and rod size needed for each project.

You will analyze engineering drawings and specifications to plan your welding operations, ensuring that you can execute tasks efficiently even when procedural information is limited. Your commitment to improving operations will be crucial as you work to decrease turnaround times and streamline work processes. You will also be expected to communicate effectively with management and engineering staff to achieve build efficiency and modify, repair, assemble, and install launch vehicles as needed.
